Jax’s Method is to teach humans how to properly communicate to their pup in a way that makes sense to them. The idea is to make the conversation clear between human and dog. The results you wish to see rely on your consistency, hard work, openness to learn and willingness to change.

The first step to attending this course is to set up an assessment where Jax comes to your home to observe your pup in their own environment. The assessment includes a 45 minute to 1 hour discussion around the issues you’re having with your pup, your goals that you wish to achieve, and observing how you and your pup interact. There is a $200.00 + GST fee for the assessment if you decide not to book your pup in for the course. If you sign up for the course, the assessment fee is waived.

Your pup will stay at the WildFree farm for 4 weeks. During this 4 week stay, your pup will have an average of 10-15 minutes of work every hour, to ensure that they are not overstimulated while they’re learning. The remaining time is spent outside in the Exploration Park or with the pack, having free rein of the WildFree Farm.

Dogs will learn the following at during the Canine Etiquette Course:

  • Jax’s unique shadow exercises. Your dog will mirror your every step forwards and backwards with eyes on you! They will also learn to stop when you stop.

  • Look to their human for direction before reacting first. Accept and avoid distractions.

  • Respect the space around all thresholds. An open door means “Wait, be patient and relaxed, and give eye contact asking for permission before going through a threshold, into a vehicle, out of a kennel, or onto furniture.

  • Wait for permission before eating or chewing a toy/bone.

  • Respect human’s personal boundaries

  • Manners inside the home

  • Proper canine interactive/social cues and skills

  • Surrender objects dogs are possessive of

Includes:

  • 4 week stay at the WildFree Farm

  • Daily exposure to new situations, people, places, and animals.

  • Training includes: confidence building exercises, interactive skill exercises, house training, learning how to accept and avoid distractions, looking to the human for direction rather than reacting negatively, patiently and attentively walking centred behind the human, and more

  • 6 human training sessions with more sessions available at additional cost.

After the 4 week stay, Jax will drive your pup home for the first human training sessions, followed by two more in the next two days. Jax will teach you how to communicate to your pup in a way that they understand, along with teach you everything that your pup has learned. After the first three human training session, Jax will work wherever and on whatever you’d like help with.

It is critical, in order for your pup’s progression to continue, that every family member follows the same rules. Jax will send you everything you need to know: rules, routine changes, feeding, exercises to practice, and homework. Your pup will only act as they do with Jax if you react and feel as she does (confident and patient with the correct timing and positioning of your body).

Through this process, please keep in mind that it is more about how you feel and the timing in which you approach your pup than what you are actually “doing”. The exercises are very similar with each one of the WildFree clients, but the approach in how Jax teaches each new dog and human varies. Every pup learns a different way, just as humans do, so she modifies and adjusts to each human and dogs learning capabilities.

The Canine Etiquette Course is offered during the months of January, February, March, April, May, September and October. Maximum of three training dogs at any given time on the WildFree Farm.
